Agree. A lot of industry software still doesn't utilize multiple cores in the main program kernel outside of video crunching. Its just not worth totally redesigning the package from the ground up for marginal performance increases.
In so many applications there are not really so many tasks going on at once but just one dependent string of tasks that cannot go any faster than any one task takes to run. Its often better in workstations for CAD or scientific work to stick with a lower number of faster cores.
