Hey Brother, I started drinking long before the Corps, but after coming back to Okinawa from Afghanistan it took a massive turn for the worse. I drank like you’re talking about for the better part of a decade after. It ruined my relationships, it ruined my school efforts, it ruined my ability to hold jobs. I started cutting back a couple years ago because of this movement and the people in it. Really opened my eyes that there was hope in this world. I stopped drinking entirely last Memorial Day after an especially explosive fight almost ended a new relationship. I feel better now than I ever have before. My relationship is going strong and I can finally hold a job that I enjoy. I didn’t go to the VA but I do have a very strong support system. I’m so glad to hear they’ve been able to help. Never lose sight of the reasons you want to live. If you have faith, lean on it. These will be the guiding light in the darkness. There are a lot of us out there, you’re never alone.
