from a legal perspective Derek has a very good appellate chance.
Firstly the judge denied Jury Sequestration, which basically means making sure the jury don't consooom news during high profile cases so their opinions are not tainted. The judge decided not to do this and instead let all the jury members watch their daily 6pm CCN and MSNBC broadcasts, which told them know that if Saint Floyd of Fentanyl was not avenged every store in America would be having 100% off sales.
Secondly, the jury was evidently biased. According to the Washington post the jury was composed of 1 black woman, 2 mixed women, 2 white men, 3 black men and 4 white women. How the blacks and mixed people are going to vote is already obvious. 1 of the white women on the board was a literal 20 year old e-thot who posted pro blm stuff on her twitter (note this for later). And one of the "white" men was described as a chemist who enjoyed going to synagogue during his free time. Yeah, seems white alright. In a state where 40%ish are white males there was only 1 on the jury.
Which brings me to my next point. The judges decided who and who would not be part of the jury. The jury had to fill in a 16 page questionnaire, which would determine whether they were unbiased enough to fit the role. All of the jurors were pro-blm and anti police, with only a 1-2 being indifferent. I find it hard to believe that all the elected jury members just coincidentally have the same political view points. What seems more likely is that the judge purposefully elected people that would, more likely than not, decide to convict Derek.
Furthermore the judge denied a change of venue. Minneapolis was already on edge due to racial tensions and being the city in which the nation wide chimp out began in they obviously have a strong opinion on the issue. By denying a change of venue the judge more or less gave the middle finger to Derek. From a legal perspective a change of venue was entirely appropriate, yet the judge denied it.
Finally Dereks legal team could argue that the jury was more or less under duress when making their decision/ The day before the verdict Maxine Waters warned they would riot if they did not receive the "right verdict". Furthermore the jury was well aware that sometime down the line their names would be published for all to see. It isn't a stretch to beleive that some jurors who may have been indifferent would have voted guilty so the ferel apes don't show up at their door.
TLDR: Derek as a very good appeal chance, assuming he’s given a fair shot. Sorry for the wall of text
