They can just keep holding sham elections safe in the knowledge it will be peacefully accepted. They have MAGA contained to the point where it is little more than an irritant for them now.
I think, ultimately, those really calling the shots in the regime understand this, and this is why they will continue to pull their punches on Trump unless they are certain the replacement will be someone they control. My expectation is the NY DA will get his wings clipped and it will fizzle out. Why should Trump running again be something for them to worry about? He’ll run, win easily, be declared the loser, tell everyone to stay peaceful, and then it’s straight back to business as usual for the regime. People getting mad about it online or ‘peacefully protesting’ is of zero consequence to them.
