It still is a shamed career. Quick raise your hand if you know an IRS agent IRL!

anotherthing 15 points ago +15 / -0

I had an uncle that worked for the IRS his entire life. He was a Republican. He also worked in the Cincinnati branch when Lois Lerner was doing her thing. He kept his head down and wouldn't discuss anything he saw there for fear of reprisal and because he was only a year or two from retiring. He passed on over two decades ago. He didn't live much after retirement. He also has an adult daughter with a developmental disability that relied on his benefits. I think the stress got him.

*Robinhood was literally about robbing tax collectors.

It's false that rovbinhood was about taking from the rich, because Robin hood himself was a rich kid taking vengeance for his family's wealth being stolen.

The only story communist Hollyweird hasn't tried to remake lately.

Websitesdown 1 point ago +1 / -0

My grandmother was. Good woman but, things have changed so..

Trumpymctrumpface 27 points ago +27 / -0

I wouldn't hang out with anyone who works for the IRS, I'd be ashamed. Tax collectors are lowest of the low. Prostitutes get more respect

Jasonshaw1776 8 points ago +8 / -0

prosties > Democrats > RINOs > IRS

Yes in those days tax collectors were allowed to squeeze extra money beyond what the Roman authorities required to be paid into the Roman treasury.

Today Federal tax collectors are not allowed to keep collections for themselves. They turn the funds into the Treasury, after which the government gives the money to Ukraine, Israel, etc, which kicks much of it back to government officials who then keep it for themselves.

Obviously the Roman system had fewer moving parts.

DiscoverAFire 2 points ago +2 / -0

The tax collectors were allowed to tack on an extra fee to pay their bills, since they weren't getting paid by the Romans. But those extra fees became larger and larger so the tax collectors could live lives of luxury, and they'd tell the centurions you didn't pay your taxes if you didn't pay whatever fee the tax collector set.

So you have greedy men betraying their community for the powers that be. Sounds like RINOs.

Lest we forget that Jesus called a tax collector to follow him and he become one of the Twelve…

Tcrussell [S] 23 points ago +25 / -2

Jesus called Matthew away from his profession, called him to repentance, and recomissioned his as a discipline never to greedily steal for the state ever again. Perhaps it's not possible to be redeemed and evil simultaneously. Then there is the notorious story of Zacchaeus who was required to return everything he had stolen in order to prove his repentance.

FlySciFiGuy 6 points ago +8 / -2

Zacchaeus was not required to do anything, Luke records that Jesus only told him that He wanted to dine with him. Zacchaeus gave half of his goods to the poor voluntarily and unprompted.

Good works can be an indication that one has been born again, but the only sign commanded to prove repentance is baptism.

Deplorable_Yankee 9 points ago +9 / -0

So what you are saying is that out of 87,000 armed iRS agents, one will be a good person?

TexasPiper -4 points ago +3 / -7

I’m annoyed that they are using the Bible to justify hatred of tax collectors.

deleted 6 points ago +6 / -0
Sumarongi 5 points ago +5 / -0

Romans used a tax farming system. A tax collector was basically a private collection agency that kept a cut of the taxes as compensation.

They were hated for the same reason we hate the IRS; no one likes to pay taxes

DiscoverAFire 1 point ago +1 / -0

It wasn't a cut of the taxes, it was a cut on top of the taxes.

Romans say "this guy owes us 5%". Tax collector goes and tells him "You owe the romans 6%" ... or 8% or 10%, entirely up to the tax collector and how rich he feels like being at the expense of his countrymen.

Sumarongi 1 point ago +1 / -0

It’s essentially the same. No tax farmer is going to work for free; that’s how the tax farming system was designed

Seems unfit, but it’s essentially no different than any other middleman

It was an extortive system, which accomplish two things for the roman’s; they got paid, and the tax collectors took the heat. It was a good system, too, for the tax collectors as they got rich

DiscoverAFire 1 point ago +1 / -0

Most middlemen don't have a state-enforced monopoly, a state-enforced requirement that you purchase the product, and state violence on tap to jail you until you pay whatever they unilaterally decide.

It was advantageous for the romans and the tax collectors, but that's just political insiders teaming up to shank the outsiders. Sure, a vaxx mandate is good for the pharmaceutical companies, investors, and the politicians getting lobbied - but that doesn't excuse the abusiveness of the system.

Wolfebane84 6 points ago +6 / -0

Why does that annoy you?

Genuinely interested here.

DCdeplorable 3 points ago +4 / -1

Jesus also said render unto caesar, what is caesars.

I take this to mean, separate yourself from govt issued currency. Change my mind.

Sumarongi 2 points ago +2 / -0

Pretty much. The ‘Kingdom of God (or of heaven)’ as the spiritual concept central to Jesus’ teaching, is still misunderstood to this day

GodIsPerfect 9 points ago +9 / -0

Taxation is theft.

Sumarongi 4 points ago +4 / -0

Inflation is taxation

Dictator_Bob 7 points ago +7 / -0

The story of Robin Hood once referenced often by the left is no longer. As it is a story not only of taking from the rich and giving to the poor: it is a story of the tax collectors and the state. The historical truth is that the tax collector consumes what wealth the poor have created.

HuggableBear 18 points ago +18 / -0

Robin Hood never robbed from the rich to give to the poor, that's communist propaganda.

Robin Hood robbed from the government and returned it to the overtaxed citizenry.

Dictator_Bob 3 points ago +3 / -0

Wolfebane84 1 point ago +1 / -0

He already said "the rich"....

HuggableBear 0 points ago +1 / -1

Government has no money. They take yours and spend it. They aren't rich. They are parasites.

emet 6 points ago +6 / -0

In Rome in those day actors were considered subhuman. Cannot actually deny this logic.

Let’s get biblical. Biblical. I wanna get biblical. Let me hear your Bible talk.

I’ll show myself out.

Go to your county clerk office. Gauranteed 100% women. They couldn't find a single male willing to fuck people in the ass.

MySidesGoUp 5 points ago +5 / -0

There are work opportunity tax credits to hire women/minority/veterans first. One of the many devices to implode workforces..

That’s only because they didn’t have the FBI back then

  1. Luke 3:12-14 Some tax collectors came to be baptized. They asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He told them, “Don’t collect more money than you are ordered to collect.” Some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He told them, “Be satisfied with your pay, and never use threats or blackmail to get money from anyone.”
Monzie 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's partly because they extorted everyone for more than they were supposed to collect.

Sumarongi 1 point ago +1 / -0

that was the tax farming system

blitzkrieg1 2 points ago +2 / -0

already a thang

AmericanJawa 1 point ago +1 / -0

And yet, there is also the fact that at the end of the day, Jesus did eat with Tax Collectors, and was widely criticized for it.

notCIA 1 point ago +1 / -0

That was because they were under oppressive Roman rule and they were the enforcers of the unjust laws, and got filthy rich off that exploitation and cruelty towards their own people.

dirtypaperplate 1 point ago +1 / -0

kornesque 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, that's was different. That was tax collectors working for a burgeoning oppressive regime which despised the population it ruled over...

BottleGnome 1 point ago +1 / -0

If Rome was in decline and people seeing degener you in the open and thier taxes wasted why would they want to pay it? The fucking roads here being worked on since covid started its just a money sink for citizens.

Illuminaughtie 1 point ago +1 / -0

i'll bet that back in the day tax collectors had some of that sweeeet early life....

Can we all apply and then use those guns to hunt down commies?

Perhelion 1 point ago +1 / -0

Now you never see a physical person because it comes smooooooth out of your paycheck via direct deposit. Now that hate has transferred to law enforcement.

Edited my w4 2 years (happy 2019 for me) in advance to assist with the attempt at tax strike I kept hearing should be happening. pay my dues at the end of the year because I feel alone in this desire to starve the beast. still paying 0 to the fed through the year till tax time comes. its fun math i suppose to figure out what to set aside

KILLARY4PRISON 2 points ago +2 / -0

You're already flagged in the computer. Just have to get an agent on you.

DiscoverAFire 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yup you're flagged for sure. But fuck 'em, make them work for your money.
