Noam Chomsky is an example of someone who is really smart in one field (linguistics) but then decided that means he's an expert on politics.

41
Anti-Uniparty 41 points ago +41 / -0

Is that why he speaks using so many words, yet barely conveys a thought?

21
ghost_of_aswartz 21 points ago +25 / -4

Are you kidding me? Chomsky is brilliant and his 'entire' body of work is stuff many of us have thought and expressed even here...stuff like "the CIA assassiantes leaders in the 3rd world", etc.

However, his problem is that he pusses out when it really matters

  • He won't even explore any kind of inside job of JFK assassination
  • He gets ANGRY at respectful students who ask him about 9/11 inside job theories

That is why as James Corbett of CorbettReport has said, he's an "Establishment Contrarian" in other words, he's a gatekeeper, a limited hangout

THAT is the problem with Gnome Chomp-sky

US officials have gone in and exploited many other nations, in many ways. Chomsky has some faults and fair points. It is more the American MIC and corrupt govts. Not the actual American people. The American MIC is no doubt a huge influence behind the push of NATO towards Russia. The shit storm never ends. Big Pharma can't take all the loot.

That Twat-ter commenter is just proving Chomsky's point.

Think you mean the stunning/brave hero

6
anotherthing 6 points ago +6 / -0

That goes for most groups who are led by emotion rather than intellect. Someone makes a point they don't like, so they prove the point rather than think about it first. Same thing goes with Muslims that behead someone that says their religion is violent or black people that ransack a store because they think someone that works there is assuming they're a criminal.

There's an opposite side of that coin, which I think a lot of our side suffers from. We're too afraid to prove their point even though we know we're pretty close to that being the only means left.

Chomsky is the perfect rendition of the boomer stereotype. He says the right things, identifies the right problems and then comes to the complete wrong conclusions about how to fix things.

22
Paintman05WhiteSox 22 points ago +22 / -0

Looking back to the late 1980s when I had to read Chomsky in college - wow you really hit the nail on the head ! Well said.

3
texas4ever 3 points ago +3 / -0

The thing that drives me the craziest is when people come to all these conclusions about what is wrong and what we need...then start saying "If only we had a leader who could fix these problems" completely ignoring Trump is that person.

you just defined what communism is.

communism is: install communism in a country, DOES NOT WORK communists: it must be the country, let's install it in another country, go back to the beginning, install communism in a country, DOESN'T WORK, and continue like this in several countries until we ''find'' where it ''works''.

in the end we already know that it will never work, it's not the country, it's the shit called communism that doesn't work.

This was unpredictable. Chomsky was a liberal folk hero. I was torched for criticizing him in papers, even though he deserves such criticism as linguistics is of course, relativist.

1
defiant_liberty 1 point ago +1 / -0

Looking back, it was completely predictable. Attaching himself to the left is a surefire way for his influence and person to fade into irrelevancy. That's why he is dumping all the leftist bullshit, and focusing on his pro free speech legacy.

And the irony is that people and Bill Maher still fail to see that it is the ideologies which they advocated for decades which got us to this point...now they complain because the brakes weren't slammed on at the point they wanted and the vehicle has had it's motor revved up and is heading towards plummeting off the cliff towards which they directed everyone....cue a Thelma and Louise meme with Chomsky and Maher running off the cliff after not wanting to deal with the consequences of the mess they helped to create!

2
Pissed_American 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bill Maher. Idk what to even say about kid love. He's such an idiot. But he is frequently right. But still so wrong. Like u/TheAnsweris3letters comment above. Same could be said about Maher he said for Chomsky. They are so much alike.

I was listening to Bill Maher and Adam carolla they did a podcast recently. And I know carolla is based. But doesn't get too much into politics unless he's ragging on Gavin newsome. But he had Maher agreeing with him on so much fundamentals of conservatives. Like they're talking about how kids these days don't have respect. Adams complaining about how his teenage daughters friend causally was rollerblading inside on his hardwood floors. saying a hilarious story you couldn't find anything to disagree with. Bill just says to Adam, Well that's why people shouldn't have kids and live like me, a senior citizen with no children who smokes weed all the time and dresses like a college student.

2
TommyJarvis 2 points ago +2 / -0

Exactly, Maher is able to identify things that are wrong but completely blind to the fix because it is the antithesis if everything he is down to his core. Typical.

barwhack 4 points ago +4 / -0

Chomsky, you are a CAUSE of this garbage. Die already and go away.

4
NotDangerousGame 4 points ago +4 / -0

I only discovered Chomsky a little bit ago. I don't agree with him in everything, but he is very anti establishment which, as it becomes clearer that the right v left dichotomy is a false one, is better than 90% of political pundits.

4
Kalus 4 points ago +4 / -0

I just checked by using Russian VPN.

Every single American news media outlet I am aware of (ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, AP, Breitbart, VOA, HuffPost, Slate, NYT, WP, Bloomberg, WSJ, Reuters, VICE, Politico etc.) is all accessible in Russia, British news outlets like BBC, The Economist, Sky News, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent etc. were also accessible, German and French outlets (Der Spiegel, Die Welt, France 24, Le Figaro etc.) were accessible too. So this means Russians have not blocked any of the Western news outlet so far.

Now for the social media outlets - other than Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, every single Western social media outlet was accessible without any problem.

1

I never in a million years would have thought the left would be such obedient slaves to the government. I've been "awake" almost 20 years now and this would seem like far out there political fiction to me on 15 years ago.

1
jackneefus 1 point ago +1 / -0

Chomsky is a strong defender of free speech, which is unusual on the left these days. I would not want him to pick the next president, but he is not a globalist and not a Marxist-Leninist.

2
ABrainDisease 2 points ago +2 / -0

He wanted to keep non-vaxxed people from leaving their homes. I dont know what he calls himself but he has authoritarian tendencies and took the covid bait hook, line and sinker. Whatever credibility he had is gone now.

1
defiant_liberty 1 point ago +1 / -0

Chomsky is getting old, and is trying to think of his legacy, or what he is going to leave behind for the historical record. Attachment to the left is a sure way to be dumped into the historical garbage heap of worthlessness. That's why is is starting to ignore the left, ignore his poor economic philosophies and other leftist bullshit, while focusing on his free speech legacy.

"We need leftism ... No, no, no - not this totalitarian leftism - We need correct™️ leftism™️. Yes, yes."

1
LogicalPatriot 1 point ago +1 / -0

Chomsky is a bit stupid here.

He's not wrong that we are heading to that direction but in Soviet Russia, before thr internet exists, you could listen to the BBC using radio.

What he fails to mention is that if you were caught with such a radio listening in the unapproved state blocked foriegn material, you'd be detained and arrested.

Watching RT or some shit won't get you arrested here. It just won't. Some sites might see your job opportunities dwindle based on ever more intrusive background checks but seriously, Chomsky made an error sayin what he said.

I'd also like to note that you people on here were cheering when Russia was announcing it was blocking channels like CNN and MSNBC. In affect, Chomsky is wrong just in the modern day. Putin himself is engaging in the same level of totalitarian bullshit he describes being here.

1
gregariousbarbarian 1 point ago +1 / -0

Chomsky actually admitted Trump's foreign policy was much better than Biden's. I think this was a few months ago when Ukraine started.

  1. The USA murdered 63 million babies, and is not done yet.

  2. If we resist the police will inject us with something in an insulin syringe to make us forget.

  3. If we record it, they can hack computers and in-car cameras with a beep sound to delete the data.

  4. The police rape kids for profit. They rape the kid, the state pays the parents "victim restitution" and the parents split it with the cop.

  5. Cell phones allow "feature activations" that can put us into seizures. They frequently do this to people driving cars to assassinate them with traffic "accidents."

  6. Other feature activations on phones allow cops to mind control us, so they give us directives that we must follow that we do not even question.

  7. Banks and other commercial companies fake data when cops ask.

  8. ISPs change what websites showing laws say so you go into court sabotaged with bad legal info.

  9. Bailiffs at court houses refuse to let us file suits or charges - they just say "no."

10 Landlords help cops break into our homes and steal our evidence and self-defense items.

FUCK THE PIGS!
