It's called a Ledger Nano S

I like Trezor, it's a bit more secure than a Ledger. No identifying information (email) included to use Trezor unlike the Ledger.

Where do I buy crypto to store on it? I don't see a way to get my crypto off of my online wallet.

It's a physical encrypted wallet. You create an address on the device and send the crypto to that address. Address will be different depending on the crypto.

You can also easily create "paper wallets" protected only by a private key.

Check out some YouTube tutorials.

Anywhere. You can send from any exchange to a personal wallet. I can sell you bitcoin. Either way, once it is off an exchange you can do many things to take it offline.

For the first few years in crypto it was all just agreements between gentlemen. My first purchases were in IRC after getting to know some people.

How you store it, well I can help you understand how that works. You can just store a secret key or phrase for the wallet itself, then the only thing you truly need is that paper/bit of text.

I don't recommend hardware wallets because I consider them a false promise. True offline storage just relies on that text, and it is up to you how you want to safeguard it.
