I'd be interested in one that is done right. Hard to verify. If you are using a VPS from a major cloud provider to host it I think it's a false sense of security at best. It would need to be done on hardware owned by an individual in a colo with the data encrypted at rest. It would need to have some layer of encryption for all traffic not just SSL but something like zerotier. And then, most importantly, it could not be open to just anyone joining by asking. There would have to be some vetting process, a vouching process where the initial creator only invites people they know and trust IRL and branch out from there. After a certain number of members join it should be considered compromised.

I'm not hosting this one, it's on a public server. I agree with everything you're saying, I just don't have the server hardware or technical capability to do it myself. At best this current server is a duct-tape fix or a crude prototype.

This is something I'm capable of doing, as well as putting rules so no shady shit is discussed. I have no interest in talking about anything edgy, just the sort of privacy chat we're already having here, except people can connect with each other long-term rather than having to chat reddit-style with randos.

lol, wtf are you planning on talking about? Large rooms in Matrix are never encrypted. How the hell would you verify everyone? You couldn't. Consider them compromised and just don't talk about anything illegal or personally identifying.
