iPhone has a feature built into the phone (doesn't use a server) that can detect objects within a photo. If a phone is powerful enough to use image recognition locally just imagine what is possible on more powerful hardware.

Where did it ask you this? Where are these memes stored? And in what format?

Local images saved to your device? Or are you uploading all your pics and screenshots to the cloud?

My photos on Apple are automatically categorized by my albums I set up & screenshots, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. If you are getting memes, pics, etc online they know the source. Everything has a digital footprint.
