Funny, I climbed up those steps years ago. Not surprised they stopped it that shit is steep as hell.

I'm more surprised this wasn't a Chinese tourist, those fuckers break every rule.

realerfunction 11 points ago +11 / -0

didn't some chink agent break the top of one of the pyramids

Kaarous 7 points ago +7 / -0

Probably. The only people left in the post revolution Chinese mainland were the regime bosses, the criminals and the shit eating peasants. Everyone else was killed.

The quality of their race at present, directly reflects this. That said they're still doing better about fighting the proverbial they than we are right now.

the shit eating peasants

Don't forget the peasant-eating peasants. Eh never mind same thing.

They didn’t stop it because of the danger; that was just an excuse.

They stopped it, because, as demonstrated by many comments here, it became ideologically profitable to claim “sacred” status and use that to control the behavior of others…

You see this everywhere where sites like this exist, now, and there are groups with vested interests in controlling who gets to access a site/climb a structure. Everywhere from Mexico to Egypt to China to Australia. All since roughly 2005-2010, never mind the fact that these are all monuments to dead cultures, and all have been climbed just fine, by a wide variety of outsiders, for hundreds of years up to that point…

It’s all part of our general trend towards control and slavish conformity, where, instead of being largely “free”, we are all largely “unfree”, and expected to be “extra thankful” to be allowed any freedoms at all…

Really sad to see people here cheering that on. Thought we were better than Reddit. Obviously not, when it comes to stupid, authoritarian groupthink.

I do admit of doing a lot worse stupid things. I once climbed an old statue in Italy and then got chased by the police. Fortunately it was much simpler times before everyone recorded everything and la polizia did not care all that much.

Some broad tried to steal mosaic tiling in Pompeii and got caught. According to guards it's usually the French.

A spokesman said: ‘The woman showed little remorse, despite the fact she may stand trial and get a suspended sentence of up to eight months. This time the offender was British but the chief offenders are the French.’

Based Romans.

A tourist showed ‘little remorse’ after causing £2,600 of damage to a mosaic in Pompeii, police have said. The British woman, 21, climbed over a rope barrier and chiselled off 20 tiles from a mosaic while visiting the Casa dell’ancora villa with her parents and sister.

Beating it with a nightstick in front of its parents and sister as an example wouldn't be satisfying. The state of the mosaic is abysmal.

Why can't you dance on the stairs? It's the ruins of a dead pagan religion. It's not something that deserves deference. What, you want them to only climb up for human sacrifices?

ThatsAlright 9 points ago +10 / -1

That's true, though the same stands for most of western "heroes," etc. It's why you see various statues being pulled down, having shit smeared on them, etc.

What, you want them to only climb up for human sacrifices?

Don't think they can really compete with abortion and liberal, capitalist orgies of death.

Sgt_Thundercok 2 points ago +6 / -4

Jesus fuck, are your comments always this retarded?

lapalapa 5 points ago +7 / -2

You bet they are. Please don't blaspheme.

bamboozler1 1 point ago +1 / -0

Unfortunately the people who would ban shit like this are the same ones who closed Ayers Rock in Australia, and who are increasingly “banning” whitey from most spaces…

This is not something that anyone here should be supporting. Unironically, OP (and the article author) has the wrong take, here.

Kweebecker 1 point ago +3 / -2

The rule is "no touchy the historical artifacts". So they went and touchy'd the historical artifact. Seems cut-and-dry to me. Just because a pyramid is big, doesn't make it not a historical artifact.

So unironically, yes: It should only be used for human sacrifices or other religious rituals, at least in reinactment for educational purposes by trained professionals aware of the historic value of the item they're interacting with.

HernanCortes 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ay lmao

lapalapa 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah I got it wrong. I assumed people could get on the stairs.

bamboozler1 2 points ago +2 / -0

No, you got it right. It’s an insanely stupid rule, for a fucking Mayan pyramid.

Ignore the authoritarian idiots, here and elsewhere.

This weird desire in contemporary society to “restrict” and “control” everyone’s actions is totally out of line, and this is just part of that. Only in the 21st century could someone think that one single tourist climbing the stairs of a fucking pyramid is somehow going to “damage a historical artifact”, LMAO…

bamboozler1 1 point ago +1 / -0

I totally, totally disagree with your point.

Like, completely.

This is entirely the wrong approach, but it’s oh so 21st century.

People have been climbing this pyramid ever since the Maya fucking died out. One tourist will make no difference. Get a grip.

Mpetey123 [S] -2 points ago +1 / -3

The article says no one can be on the stairs. The pyramid is part of their culture and deserves respect.

bamboozler1 3 points ago +3 / -0

Nah. No it doesn’t. The Maya have been dead for 1000 years. People have been climbing the pyramid ever since. A tourist doing so makes no difference.

Your idea is bullshit.

Ideas like yours are exactly the arguments leftists use to lock up “sacred” mountains and sites everywhere, and it is absolute bullshit. So no, you’re wrong, and the article writer is an idiot.

lapalapa 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh, climbing them isn't allowed? I assumed wrong.

bamboozler1 1 point ago +1 / -0

Nah, he doesn’t know shit. He’s just going off the article.

Besides, in this case, it’s a dumb rule that completely deserves to be broken. Don’t apologize.

Footsoldier 6 points ago +7 / -1

I feel a little sorry for that shameless attention whore. Mobs are always so ugly to watch.

landlubber 7 points ago +8 / -1

Why? She is clearly excellent at gaining attention.

Might not have been positive attention... but she doesn't really look like someone to get caught up in the details.

Footsoldier 6 points ago +7 / -1

Then I'm happy for her, and hope she gets the once-in-a-lifetime experience of having her severed head thrown down the temple steps.

Sgt_Thundercok 3 points ago +4 / -1

I wish they'd done more than toss water bottles at this selfish, ignorant cunt. I have no mercy for any 'rules for thee but not for me' moron.

bamboozler1 1 point ago +2 / -1

I have no mercy for idiots who ascribe to dumb ideas of “respect” for a long-dead religion and society, when climbing the fucking thing will make zero difference to it’s survival or protection.

Fuck off, authoritarian loser.

Sgt_Thundercok 2 points ago +2 / -0

Awww, little Timmy wants to grow up to be an edgy anarchist. How precious.

GiveThemNothing 4 points ago +5 / -1

Don't worry through Social Media indoctrination it will soon be them dancing half naked on the pyramid taking pics of their butts and flashing their tits for their Insta/OnlyFans subs.

Guy_Incognito76 4 points ago +5 / -1

Wtf it looks like a pigman from the twilight zone

bamboozler1 3 points ago +3 / -0

People were literally climbing this exact pyramid, no issues, until 2008. In fact, guides were actively encouraging people to do so, before society became so insane…

Authoritarian idiots like you, OP, are the reason that society has become so sterile, and so controlled.

It’s a monument of a dead society. Climbing it does zero harm to a fucking giant stone structure that has survived for a millennium.

Get a grip, and fucking realize that “the angry mob” were not, in fact, locals, but largely fellow tourists, equally as full of shit as yourself.

Authoritarianism is never good, especially when it comes to mob-rule bullshit like this.

Mpetey123 [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Who pissed in your Wheaties? How am I an authoritarian? Because I expect people to obey the rules? I don't know why Mexico changed the rules about climbing but 2008 was 14 years ago so it's been the rule for awhile. Mexico has every right to preserve it's heritage.
