They didn't like the Yanukovich government. Fair enough. He had already agreed to new elections though. Had the just waited a while, none of this would have happened. It would have been hard for Russia to justify taking Crimea if election results had gone against it.
And so a single act leads to untold misery for millions for more than 8 years, and who knows for how many more years.
I honestly wasn't in favor of either until my government and every other criminal enterprise started pumping in money and weapons faster and faster for no legal or supportable reason. Just because it's Ukraine is no reason.
If the US had been bombing that area and the people in that area overwhelming wanted to be part of Canada, then yes I'd be okay with it. And while every news site (right and left, even dissident-right sites) are insisting the elections weren't real the results jive with previous elections between pro-west and pro-russia candidates. If it were southern california joining mexico I would not be happy since that would just be illegals and migrants stealing a chunk of the country but that is not the situation with eastern Ukraine.
