Every square inch of this country is covered by air radar. This plane is constantly tracked by satellite. This is a cover story, and they fucked it up. I doubt the pilot even ejected. Something happened, and they quickly came up with a crash cover story and not everyone got the word that it was a cover story. Someone started looking for it and couldn't find it. Now they can't take back the cover story, and they look like complete idiots.
