No snide remarks about the Matrix? We're past that dogpiling now?

Not upset, although if you weren't bothered by the Android comment I don't know why you replied.

I've just dealt with a lot of two-faced individuals in my time online and in real life. I had to make sure where you stood.

I don't like to see Retarddit behavior replicated here. It's supposed to be a fresh start where people learn from past mistakes instead of repeating them.

Can confirm. I found the Matrix reply to be such a great comeback, I copied it when Julian gave me a similar short, condescending remark.

I don't think you guys are conspiring, no. I couldn't give a shit about "karma" and it doesn't even work the same way here; I'm just concerned how it incentivizes people to be manipulative as a supposed measure of "social approval."

Again, I'm wary, because if the C. Falcon incident in this community has taught me anything people will act nice or mean depending on if they think it will make them "look good" or not. He sent me a bunch of PMs faking that he was extending an olive branch towards me while trashing me publicly. In a combination of me not checking my inbox that often and just having a hunch he wasn't being genuine, I decided to keep up my Nintendo criticisms and sure enough he didn't mean a word of what he said.

I remember it every once in a while and laugh but there are still people here who think he was in the right despite me seeing through his pretense (he just felt personally attacked about my c/Gaming post mocking how it became a corporate circlejerk back then no thanks to his part and didn't want to admit it).

This sounds nice. I used to rely on ABP, but it has been falling short on mobile for quite some time. Not that I necessarily blame them. Advertisers, and those who do business with them, are always looking for ways to circumvent ad-blockers.

Happy to help. Looking up privacy-focused YT frontends is a little hobby of mine; if you look at my post history like two years ago I was recommending stuff like RustyPipe to people. Actually, if I'm not mistaken it looks like they took the RustyPipe project and improved it, since this also seems to run on Rust.

ABP is long outdated. uBlock with extensive modifications is the norm now and even then you need to run a bunch of other modifications to properly secure your privacy.

I’ve had the same issue as RRachet. ABP is useless. Thanks for the info. Def. look into it.

What modifications would ublock origin need to make it properly secure?

ABP has been garbage for a long time, ublock that shit.

Or better yet work toward leaving youtube altogether. I really like Odysee, runs on blockchain and I heard they are partnering to run ads on videos of which you would keep a lot more as a content creator.

Yes, but it's not like you can't recommend both Nitter AND Mastodon/Pleroma instances. I don't use Twatter, I use Pleroma instead and I would rather everybody leave as well for privacy alternatives but it's not realistic to completely wean everybody off in two seconds, so you might as well give them an intermediary to avoid giving their data to Twatter before you sell them on the idea of getting something better than Twatter. People talk a lot but they don't prove themselves through their actions.

I just use Brave to block ads on YouTube on desktop, but on my phone I use something called YouTube Vanced. I don't know if it blocks data gathering or not, but I use it to block ads, as well as give me background playback so I can listen to music on my phone while working out.

Check out NewPipe on android. blocks ads and google can't collect any data on you other than your ip address.

It only blocks data-gathering on the Rooted version. If you notice you're getting more "recommended" videos, your data is being gathered. Rooted YT Vanced blocks all non-user interactive data gathering. So while videos watched and watch time data aren't taken, likes and dislikes, as well as other manual interaction, are.

You should post this to c/Technology as well. I'd say c/Privacy too but I'd assume someone would accuse it of not being private enough.
