"Why isn't it just called dark souls 4?"

Cause Hidetaka Miyazaki doesnt want the game to be dragged down by what people think a souls title should be. Jesus a good director like that.

Also lets him abandon Souls canon and write something completely new, that's a definite plus.

I think it was a bad idea to make a sequel to Dark Souls in the first place. In my opinion, the big appeal to the (minimalist) stories of the Soulsborne games is the mystery that you can slowly piece together from all the scraps you uncover. The mystery of the past that led the world to its current state, as well as the mystery of what's actually going on and what your quest is really about that could radically change your perspective on it. Dark Souls I pretty much covered every base that could be covered: you learn about the rise of the gods, the fading of the First Flame, and the desperate measures taken to preserve it that only led to more ruin. There really wasn't anything else to build off that, which led to both sequels just rehashing it. They should have just made DkS II and III their own independent entities.

I have a theory that Miyazaki also thinks sequels are generally a bad idea. The development of Demon's souls and then dark souls is an interesting one and I believe that the dark souls 2 title was a longshot in miyazaki's mind.

Lol sure. I guess. But it’s just ds4. Look at it.

Which is fine btw. I’m excited to get it

This is what game trailers should look like, full of in-game footage displaying combat, enemy and environment variety, and a release date that isn't 4 years away.

As for the game? FromSoft has proven that they know how to make a game again and again, and this trailer shows that they are on the right track, I couldn't be more excited.

Agreed. FromSoft have been very consistent in their ability to put out great games. They're like Blizzard was from about the mid-90s to the late-00s/

At least he can’t fuck up the combat.

Ha! That fat fuck really burned his fanbase. It’s clear that he had an ending in mind but no clue how to get there.

This is going to separate itself by it's story/direction for sure because I get it when people instantly just think of dark souls when they look at it.

I wish they actually just got the license to do a BERSERK game, that would be news.

It looks well made, but I'm kinda meh on the whole DARK fantasy thing, I'd like something more HIGH fantasy with more colors than grey, black, and brown.

This looks very good and I'm happy to finally see something concrete about FromSoftware's latest game. It may not be anything original, but it has been a long time since they made a proper Soulsborne game, so I don't mind. It feels like less of a rehash and more like a return home after a long journey.

But...some of the imagery is reminding me of Berserk, such as the images of the ghostly world tree or the wolf knight at 1:42. That's not a bad thing at all, and they may not even be references anyway, but just results of FROM dipping into the same pools of inspiration that Miura did. It's just...making me sad.

Well it's definitely a From Software game, that's for damn sure. Their style is all over it.

I like the looks of the horse gameplay too. A very Breath of the Wild feel to it, except this will actually have good boss fights since it's for all intents and purposes a Souls game.

Cautiously optimistic, even despite the story credits to that degenerate filth Martin.

I am hyped. Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro...this will be awesome. They have a good track record too.

looks like dark souls 4?

Hope it is good. Trailer looks awesome. George R. R. Martin is concerning though. I'll wait till it comes out and see what people have to say about it.

Looks awesome. Question. Why the fuck call it Elden Ring when it's just Dark Souls 4? I mean.. c'mon lol

DigitalFulcrum 2 points ago +2 / -0

Next we need a Armored Core / Dark Souls hybrid. Call it Dark Core or something haha.

I have a huge erection for this game.

Killer trailer. World and lore might be interesting enough for me to choke down and learn the molasses mechanics.

Can they just get it over with and make a Castlevania?
