Somehow we've entered a dark age where pre-builts are the best option if you want to get into PC gaming, blame the Chinese and the miners I guess.

I never understood blaming China instead of corporations and policy makers. If a fab plant is there then blame the entities that put it there, not the country.

Heard that. Silica is made out of sand and oxygen.

We can make this shit anywhere in the world. Only greed and nefariousness prevent us from making everything on our own shores.

Fair assessment, I was referring to the fact that the Chinese are behind the virus that helped cripple world production in the first place, but you are completely right, there really is no reason that we have to depend on foreign production for this kind of stuff.

The Chinese are a very “stingy” people, they will do everything they can to cut costs in both clever and inevitably devastating ways. That’s why it can be a huge pain to work with Chinese factories, because if you aren’t on their ass and doing quality control on a very frequent basis, they will begin cutting corners to increase the profit from the order payments they receive from companies abroad. Cutting corners is pervasive in all aspects of mainland Chinese society.

IMO it's the companies' loss if they can't deliver a product you want to buy, not yours.

Devs need to start putting pressure on manufacturers if either party wants consumers.

This is what really has me laughing my ass off, is that the chip maker CEO's have to be laughing their asses off.

It almost makes me wonder if all the crypto shit was started and seeded secretly by one of the card manufacturers, as they saw custom PC's being replaced with consoles and a slowdown of purchasing high end GPU's.

So, Nvidia for example, started the crypto craze just to then hardware limit their card's hash rate, killing mining performance?

Was Nvidia really the start of it?

The qualities that make GPUs great at generating frames just so happens to be good at the kinds of parallel operations that make them good at crypto math.

Dude it doesn't matter.

Lol at anyone thinking this.

OK so all game devs will go out of business. Mission accomplished and so will card manufacturers when mining is no longer profitable.

Quit drinking the Kool-Aid. Most people selling you extreme doom pornography are doing it to make you angry.

Go outside and let these moron companies suffer. Because they will suffer when reality hits.

This plant produces silicon for both solar panels and chip makers. Per the article, it produces 17% of the global supply of silicon.

Raspberry Pi4bs are like 55 bucks...and it's got the peripherals.

And this is why my 1650 cost $400...

Glad I got lucky and snagged a 3070 earlier in the year. It's just getting worse as time passes.

I'm stuck with my 1060 6gb and a borrowed 960 for my other rig.

Shit time to be into custom PC's.

Why does China effectively own the market on silicone? Can it not be produced elsewhere?

Corporate greed.
