As somebody with a math degree, the "I casually inferred lockdowns work by eyeballing it off a time series" is pretty accurate. You should add another one with "I ran a bunch of regressions thru STATA and reported the first one where x_Lockdown had a statistically significant coefficient".

Lower left corner looks like the common argument they make in defense of socialism.

It's sad how accurate this is.

"How neoliberalism caused the coronavirus". Looks like we need to go back to Classical Liberalism then.

It is true that our lockdowns weren’t full-on lockdowns, but those are also completely impossible if we weren’t locked in fallout shelters, and unless the whole world did it all at once perfectly, it wouldn’t fucking matter on top of that.

Add to that the fact that a lot of the data’s made up and hard to get even if it weren’t, and it doesn’t make for good arguments. It is true that if the lockdowns worked really well we wouldn’t still be locked down though, and you’d see more correlated differences in the data to the lockdowns, which you don’t.

This is that awkward moment where the world collectively showed that most people are fucking idiots, and that you can’t have any relevant expertise on some things.
