I just thought I'd add some encouragement. I don't really engage in the posts besides upvotes because I have nothing to contribute and I'm not at a point in my life where I'm ready to do it myself, but I just thought I would give thanks to those sharing the fruits of their labor.

I just like being exposed to a different way of life. I have never hunted, fished, or planted my own crops (although I have helped harvest alfalfa for a family friend). I don't have too many handy skills either, although I'm more experienced when it comes to that.

Anyway, keep up the good work and spreading the word. Maybe one day I will be a gardener like you.

Wish I could see the fruits of my labor, sadly little is ripe yet. When the plums, apples, and grapes come in, I will be delighted.

It's still early in the season, right? The plants just need to go grow

If you can’t grow food you will die.

Funny thing is, I can grow food. I grew up on a farm. However since farming is not my trade I leave it to the farmers. We have what's called a civilization where tradesmen trade the fruits of their labor amongst each other.

Knitting is a hobby too. You ladies would make excellent seamstresses.

I can sew. It’s a practical skill to have. I repair my own clothing and household items and can modify them slightly if needed.

Learned in the army.

That reminds me... the wife has been looking after the garden. I did the hard part in tilling it and she planted everything. But i'm not sure she's been tending to it. I need to check in on it.

You should look at no till gardening in the future, tilling eventually leads to tins of weed seed in the soil.

Don't you need a seed drill and pesticides to do no till?

No just a tractor and a big compost pile

Explain this to me then, as I have both

Fishing is real easy to get in to. The license is cheap and can be bought at the same place you get a pole. The rush of snagging a fish and calling it a stupid bitch is better than drugs.
