Hey, to the whole mod team - I love you glorious bastards. You guys are fucking top notch
I have to say, all of this is pretty fucking WIN
I agree for the following reasons:
2000 subreddits were recently purged. how much is it going to cost to register that many domains? the current model isn't sustainable and so it has a low ceiling for growth.
We've seen the owners of TLD increase their prices 1000%. If the .win guys decide to do this, and you are paying for 1000 domains, you are screwed.
**The only reason people joined so many odd communities on reddit was because you could access them all at once. you could scroll down a page and see all kinds of odd and interesting things. How many people are going to visit 100 domains/sites a day, or 1000 if that's how many communities end up with .win accounts? it's not going to happen, and so people will choose 3 or 4 and these smaller communities will die. **
Imagine if each of those 2000 banned communities drew 1000 new people. combined, that's 2 million users. what will that do to the Alexa rankings if you combined them? Once you have that kind of clout, you will be a lot more effective.
Domains are cheap.
Owning the domains means you can't be deleted.
I think that's good decision.
Also allows communities to stay true to their roots, and avoids bragading as easily. And then, even if one of the wins went awol and started deleting stuff, there's no way it could spill over into another win.
So just use reverse proxies.
No they aren't. I had at one time over $2000/yr in domain fees. And I lost all of them because I had a financial hiccup. Same thing can happen here. 1 Domain is ALWAYS easier to maintain than hundreds.
That means no such thing.
Obviously never been IT for a large company.
Godaddy can hook you up for less than $20/year to keep a domain registered.
Hosting can cost more, depending on the amount of traffic you have coming through. But, your business model should be converting that traffic into sales or putting out enough ads to make up those costs. Even if you decided to stop using the site maintaining registration shouldn't be too expensive.
Did you have 100+ different domains registered?
Did you just recommend GoDaddy to a dude that has paid $2k/yr in domain fees?
All domain fees are not created equal my friend. If you want to start a business online you buy up the domains that are similar to yours, maybe any popular typos of your domain name, and redirecting them to the correct domain.
If you don't, and your business gets popular, someone else can and will attempt to siphon off your business by copying your site. And they probably won't live in the US where you can maybe get to them.
If you could stop, or at least heavily mitigate, any of the above and protect your business for $2,000 a year wouldn't you be crazy not to do so?
And btw, GoDaddy is a great way to get your private credentials shared with the entire known world. They've been successfully hacked several times with massive leaks of user data. If their internal security is that bad, and they still haven't fixed it, what does that say about the rest of their business?
Regardless of the above, chicks with big tits trying to sell you web domains should have been a tip-off.
Thanks for setting me straight here. Which DNR would you recommend?
Only if it's a moderator that owns the domain registration and not people who run thedonald.win. Plus the hosting, i.e. the existing content and users, is centralized under their control. It's the same vulnerability as with Reddit, just better people running it (at the moment).
No you can still be deleted with a domain. They can target your registrar, host, isp...
Best thing is to go decentralized, have a look at blockchain tech.

Absolutely, great points!
someone else suggested freedom.win, i really liked that one. in any case whichever name ends up being it'll represent all of us.
edit: scratch that, WE.WIN is definitely the hypest suggestion I've seen so far. imagine all the communities that were "defeated" under reddit's chinese censorship but came back to say that we won, we.win. so hype.
we.win is taken, but freedom.win is available, and so is people.win, wethepeople.win, townsquare.win, and users.win. There definitely needs to be a platform for regular users to create Dom Jr.s (a term I heard a while ago and liked) for niche topics that don't need a full domain name. It is the best way to compete with that other site.
Just make a hub.win/subwin And every subwin (if they chose so may obtain their own .win domains) otherwise anyone can register a .win even ActBlue
Can we crowdsource and acquire we.win
Freedom.win is cool but too American If we are to bleed Shreddit we need to go BIG
my wallet is open for a we.win crowdsource.
Same here
from the above: people.win freedom.win
... are excellent
No they aren't.
You're not familiar with domains are you?
Someone has already bought those and they are reselling them. At $455 each.
politics.win would be good. Democrats bought that neutral sounding name on reddit and that lost half the battle there.
We.Win is damn perfect. What a great idea
you.win is also a great alternative
I don't know, it sounds more like a capitulation. I know that wouldn't be the point here, but we.win is better for rubbing it in Spez's goofy cuckface.
You.win is pretty dope. Winning is for everyone, for the individual right to be free to think.
YouTube is popular because its you that matter, "we" is cool but too "groupthink"
That would definitely be hype if someone managed to buy or crowdsource it. Snappy, catchy, symbolic, and most importantly memetic.
a community hub with sub wins and preserving cookies across all will help with security/phishing a lot. someone could not know about this post and log into a deceptive site ending in .win which then will compromise their credentials.
They aren't going to be able to share cookies across sub1.win, sub2.win, sub3.win, etc.
Normally you'd use a wildcard like *.win. However, if they did that (somehow, don't even know if the browsers will allow it), the cookie would be shared to all the other .win hostnames and anyone else registering a .win hostname would get the cookies as well.
So, they'd need to make a list of .win hostnames that could read the cookie. But that list would quickly get large and unwieldly because it would need to be the list of all subs (sub1.win, sub2.win, sub3.win, etc.)
The right way to do it with subdomains would be sub1.community.win, sub2.community.win, etc.. Then the cookie could be stored on *.community.win.
However, dealing with multiple hostnames is a real pain and the sub name should really be part of the URL path like community.win/sub1 community.win/sub2, etc. instead of part of the hostname. Managing DNS records for every sub is just a pain and ends up causing lots of problems.
^this. i understand wanting to deviate from the subreddit format but this is a really kludgy way to kick things off.
It's kludgy but I can see this being the right move in the interim before the election, keeping TheDonald as the url without anything obscuring it keeps it "focused", in certain senses.
Right, and there's no reason we can't keep just TheDonald.win, but have all other sites under one domain, like this communities one.
You could make sessions pass between .win sites. Just set up CORS rules and pass tokens on the backend when a user authenticated on one site visits one of the others.
But you'd have to maintain a list.
The site owners would, but our browsers would handle it automatically.
Yeah, I was expecting to have to create new accounts when I saw they were separate .win sites. It's just a matter of time before a phishing knockoff named after a recently banned plebbit sub that isn't here appears.
thedonald.win gets so much traffic that the Alexa rank has already far surpassed Voat as a whole. The more moderate approach to alt-tech (not explicitly catering to wignats who had their free speech taken) seems to have a lot of promise. Also shown by the recent rise of Parler, though they seem shady af. ConsumeProduct, KotakuInAction (though they're not banned yet)... if y'all manages to poach popular subreddits like that AND it actually consolidates into a more aggregated format like Reddit or Voat, it may very well be the biggest competition Reddit has ever had in terms of Reddit-styled "social news" sites. Hoping for the best, Win Network. I'll stick to /pol/ but I'll probably lurk every now and then.
I agree and I believe that Doggos has said elsewhere that long term the plan is to put everything under one domain.
But I feel like communities.win or network.win isn't short and snappy enough of a name.
dot.win
That's confusing because when you say it it would be "dot dot win -- but the first dot is spelled out and the second dot is a period"
https://slashdot.win
Seeing all these communities pop up in a free environment brings a tear to my eye.
Lick my balls reddit.
Salty balls. Lick my salty balls, reddit.
Is there a reason why communities aren't part of the same second-level domain? I'd imagine we'd be able to pull a lot more users over if there was a consistent second-level domain with respective subdirectories a la Reddit.
Agreed, we need one overarching domain, otherwise we are shooting ourselves in the foot by making it tedious to navigate and switch between the communities.
yup, this is definitely cool how we're keeping them alive, but long term a single site with second level domains would be the ideal and final form we should reach. plus influx between sites flows much better that way.
It keeps everything decentralized.
If one community gets attacked it won't bring down the other. Each site is free to do what they want if you keep it decriminalized. This keeps .win sites from becoming Reddit and banning "sub .Wins" because of wrong think.
Exactly. It's actually frighteningly easy for all subs to be banned if they are attached to the same domain. This current structure is reminiscent of web rings from the past.
The same shadow admins control all of these sites so it doesn't mitigate subversion at all.
If we want things decentralized, why don't we decentralize? The current format is separate yet still centralized domains.
It's more prestigious to have an actual domain name. Whenever you're after a slash like website.com/name, it lessens the weight. This makes it more official IMO.
I disagree because it reinforces the hivemind of being under a single branded website. Reddit killed the forum and while subreddits contained useful information, they all ended up feeling the same. Having a separate domain is like a breath of fresh air, and setting up communities across domains is something that hasn't really been done before online to my knowledge. The closest thing I can think of is being authenticated to Google products across platforms. I think having subdomains could be a reasonable compromise though.
Why is a single branded website in any way a bad thing? What should be focused on are the policies of the website. As long as the site-wide policies are "allow anything so long as it's legal" then every sub-community should be allowed to place additional restrictions accordingly. This is how our country works (or at least is intended to work) and it's how this should also be modeled. The upmost important thing is having the admin-level policy be to allow anything as long as it's legal.
As the current structure stands each separate SLD is still under control of the same admins which means they're still under the same policies of these admins. So why not just put everything under one SLD? Separate SLDs does absolutely nothing to stop policy abuse, and because it does nothing, there's no reason NOT to have them under the same SLD and there's a ton of good reason TO have them under the same SLD.
having the communities so distant and hard to cross navigate will seriously stunt the growth of this website.
Can we get a gaming .win pleaseeee
Second that!
Third!
Fourth! R/gaming is filled with cancerous sjws and commies. It would be good to find a community like us.
5th! There should be a strong community for patriotic gamers.
gamers . win
and ideally one that isn't just PC vs Console crap.
We all know deep down the PC is the master race. :D
I see one more Nintendope begging for a Switch port... or one more fan of the PeniS 4 acting like it’s the second coming of Jesus, so help me...
I'll make a suggestion here: The Win project (if you want to call it that) should adopt the old Geocities-esque webring formula. Have something like a dedicated webring button on each site, and once you click on it, it takes you to a complete list of official .win sites. Perhaps implement a search function, some "news" section that highlights newly added sites and the like. You already have a full list that you're updating here so it should not be too out of the question. Having to go out of your way to go to an external site to see what's legitimate and what isn't is a pain in the ass. The webring would make it easier to discover sites that are part of the project and make navigation between several sites easier, as I imagine many users will want to use at least a couple. Keep up the good work, gentlemen.
I've always liked webrings. Cut one head off, the other remain.
Way better than the subdirectories Reddit uses.
is WE.WIN obtainable? Imagine we.win/TheDonald as a url
WEWIN.com is for sale we can crowdsource and buy it
holy fuck this!!
oh man that one's hype, you got it man, we can rub it in their faces so hard if that ended up being our last site where all communities are together.
This!!!
Unfortunately it is not.
Can we buy it?
We.win is amazeballs
Suggestion:
I really like the decentralization and not hosting everything under one website for future proofing. However, there are faults with that and I would like to propose some suggestions.
All [communities] start under https://communities.win/ (this will be like the front page)... while the [community].win is put as a parked page to thedonald.win/communities.win.
For example the "conservative" community would apply and get the conservative.communities.win, while conservative.win would be parked page to thedonald.win/communities.win.
Once conservative.communities.win reaches a certain number of subscribers or the need arises, they get to unlock the conservative.win. Then conservative.communities.win will just forward to conservative.win (nothing of "conservative" will be hosted on communities, just forwarding... like a search engine).
The reason being while users start to go to the conservative.communities.win they will know that eventually it will be moved to conservative.win and no fake xxxxx.win will trick users because users will know they need a certain amount of active users, and they can test it by first going to the conservative.communities.win to see if it gets forwarded correctly.
if the end goal is to crush reddit you need that "front page" aspect to draw people in to be able to find and join communities. Then you use a bot to crawl the external [community].win sites and the internal [community].communities.win to make the "hot", "new", etc on communities.win.
There are different options you can take depending on the end goal of the .win network, but doing this may be a good start. Of course, if this momentum really snowballs then the need for communities grows stronger and having a unique url for each might not be feasible. If it does snowball, I say first take the market share. Much easier to get people to move from [community].communities.win to [community].win than draw people in after the buzz...
Having separate servers is not really what decentralization means to most people. Decentralization most commonly refers to the control and ownership of user data away from a third party and into the hands of the individual user.
This is probably the best idea I’ve heard so far, I hope the mods go with this idea
We are growing stronger 💪💪💪
Impressive length!
Can we make worldnews and politics .wins for when reddit inevitably collapses and all the cucks come here - then we can censor and ban the midwit fucks.
We gotta be better them. When they’re in control they’ll attack you because they know they’re wrong, when your in control you must be magnanimous to show you’re right.
Last thing we want is for them to invade and spread their cancer here. They want to censor us conservatives we need to get even and do it to them!
Problem is, when your an alternative platform, they can just leave.
And enforce the rules better than the others.
We must preserve free speech unlike plebbit and other cucked social medias, regardless of whether we agree with their opinions or not.
We are in no way obligated to give the people that would see us dead or subjugated a platform to use against us.
based and hoppe pilled
Says all other major websites who end up censoring and banning conservatives. I just don’t think that’ll work.
Can someone make a MGTOW.win community? It's only a matter of time before it gets the banhammer, would like to have a community ready for when that time comes.
I lurk there occasionally, was kinda surprised MGTOW wasn't banned, considering how soft reddit can get
Mods = gods
You.win would be the best
You.win/c/TheDonald You.win/c/Politics
The.win also
Maybe bigly.win
It would be awesome if the ability to create your own subreddit was added so we could just get a bunch of other ones on here that weren't censored. I post in r/buttcoin regularly and about 5% of my posts are deleted by mods. If I say something positive about Trump or Christianity or that the U.S is great, I get mod deleted.
We also need a separate twitter and youtube. "parler" looks like it is some kind of replacement for twitter but their search isn't public so its just not the same.
Honestly, we need parallels for everything because the ridiculous censoring of anything that doesn't tow the party line on all the major sites, Facebook, Twiitter, Youtube, Reddit, etc. etc. is just out of control.
So the comments I make on a community do show up when I click on my profile within this community, but if I'm a different community and click on my profile, nothing shows up.
There will be bugs. I'm sure they're working on them as we speak.
Yes
Yeah that's correct. Your account works on all sites, but posts and comments do not transfer
CSV format for using the "equivalent domains" functionality in LastPass:
thedonald.win, omegacanada.win, gavinmcinnes.win, consumeproduct.win, kotakuinaction.win, communities.win
Consider moving out of LastPass as they don't encrypt URLs in your vault. Use Bitwarden instead, feels and works similar but far better and they encrypt everything. The last thing you need is LastPass to kick you out for wrong think.
Anybody who trusts a third party to manage their credentials (web browsers included) deserves to be pwned. Stop being a normie.
Need communities for not-yet-banned but soon-to-be-banned subreddits.
Or maybe go after the big ones? funny.win?
Good luck either way.
AYOOO shoutout from @IP2network.win to all WINNERS, Mods, and Admins!
Thank you frens for making space for us and welcoming us :3
Yessir, IP2 never dies
well its gone now
Whatever coward mods are responsible (edit- it's Jammin and ScamCast) couldn't even own up to it, decided to delete without warning and slither away like the snakes they are.
"IP2 would be dead if it wasn't for us" - the people who killed IP2
Why the fuck did they shut down?
Fragile egos, didn't want to deal with IP2 anymore and decided to burn it all down instead of just walk away from it. Community is regrouping on ruqqus for now but apparently the rest of the mods are trying to get us back here on .win.
What happened? Everything is randomly gone wtf
I just remembered the time ip2 reduced themselves to "Keegle Justice Warriors" and started a slap fight with people who were going out of their way to deliver actual content.
If this behavior is representative of the ip2 community I will be watching this dumpster fire with popcorn in hand.
Anyway where are my manners? Enjoy your stay and long live ip2 (I welcome the entertainment.)
maybe if you centipedes want to provide the Discord alternative, Matrix (riot.im is the client), that would be great. k, thnx.
also, use hCaptcha instead of Goolag's reCAPTCHA. plus its more pleasant to solve the puzzle when tor.
converting twitter links to nitter.net links would be cool too. nitter is an open source, privacy conscious front-end for twitter. same thing goes for invidio.us (youtube.com), bibliogram.art (instagram), searx (google search). you could even host the front-ends yourselves. WIN WIN WIN
going back to this topic everyday. expect to see new .win community.
What's going on with Consume Product?
it's back
.
I agree that some way to easily navigate between communities needs to be devised, as it is, I would have no idea about communities.win without someone linking it by name.
can I suggest some good additions?
rightwinglgbt,
Wuhan_Flu
watchredditdie
wuhan is a little bit compromised by the ccp but still the best honest covid community imo.
There's a couple of one's I'd love over here but would probably never come over itsafetish : feminist forum currently privated that argues transsexualism is a fetish. LGBDropTheT: Gay people who feel that trans people are have taken over LGB.
Sorry to the members of either if I've misrepresented you. I've been a lurker on both and love you all.
watchredditdie.win would be fabulous. Or perhaps redditcant.win or redditdidnt.win.
Smuggies.win, I hope it happens!
What about local communities such as losangeles.win? newyorkcity.win? I believe it is of utmost importance to carry out local organization. I also prefer the 8chan style image message board, which is open source, but it's clear the upvote system seems more popular.
We need smuggies and frenworld back.
and GRU
lol i miss GRU, i was there until the last days, then it was banned, then all our copies we banned, then our discord was banned, then our discord accounts were banned, then our next discord was banned, etc etc. until i honestly just gave up and went to 4chan and then here. a glorious comeback would be great.
We.Win
That's my suggestion for the hub site that lists them all
Wow! TheDonald, ConsumeProduct, and KotakuInAction? That's pretty much all I visited reddit for. Lol.
I like my bookmark bar not having the top tier soul sucking apps staring me down.
Now all I do is win win win. Sorry
Alright. So when can we expect CringeAnarchy and Smuggies?
SMUGGIES YES PLEASE!!!
I can't get to ConsumeProduct.win. Is it down or just blocked by my cuck ISP?
https://kotakuinaction2.win/p/GIJGCGXq/difference-between-kia-and-kia2/c/
don't know if KiA link needs to be amended?
Let's continue to expand!
Hey homies appreciate you all hosting IP2 network. I'll have to checkout the rest of the .win sites.
Can you please add https://ip2always.win So all our lost frens can find us.
There's a Kotakuinaction2.win today. Kinda suspicious.
Not really. Kotakuinaction became compromised so users left and formed Kotakuinaction2.
The mods powertripped.
If it's legit, whoever's running communities needs to update the list. Anyone can buy a win domain name, after all.
Yep. I'm not touching it until it's confirmed.
Could we get a fitness . win? Also bless yall for creating this!
Would absolutely go nuts for a technology/programming/IT focused .win site.... Something to take on Hacker News and similar. Can't stand going to those sites anymore.
I registered some new "reddit" .win domains and willing to host those. Any recommendations for source code distribution, so it would be coherent with all the other .win sites?
Saidit?
I think a full .win dedicated to documenting media lies and hypocrisy would be popular. It would be a place a little more politically neutral to share. Thoughts?
MediaLies.win
Or maybe the name of a previous similar sub.
fakenews.win
I know this has been said before but you need to put these all under a single domain. Communities.win/c/the Donald. In fact I would take advantage of the fact the Donald has so much traffic. The Donald.win/c/katakuinaction
How about subdomains instead
Eg: thedonald.communties.win
Would anyone be interested in forming a Christianity dotwin?
Back on the other side of the wall the community isn't banned, but I find that the discussion there is seriously softened and liberalized.
Faith often comes up in discussions on thedonald, so I have a feeling there are a lot of believers around that would like to have a section.
This would be perfect if a Coomer.win was made.
MOAR please!
Any plans for a front page?
hey what happened to ip2network.win? it says the site can't be reached. u/doggos
Their moderators redirected the domain. They're welcome to return whenever.
can we make ip3network.win? there was a conflict of interest between mods and the users
no dude keep the brand IP2. IP2 is a known brand
we are back at ip2always.win
ip2 moved to ruqqus.com
Hell yeah! Lets make this community way better than communist reddit ever was!
We need one for /r/conservativeLGBT
I couldn't believe that sub got banned. Never been there but it can only be assumed they are just straight up banning anything "conservative" as racist.
/r/RightWingLGBT was banned because some members weren't fans of trans people generally. This is despite the fact that there were several trans conservatives who participated. I think what caused the sub to be targeted was the fact that nearly everyone there, including the trans members of the sub, rejected the trans agenda, like allowing MtF trans to compete against women or encouraging children to transition. For Reddit, you have to embrace all of the trans agenda, no matter how extreme it is.
Or nolgbt.win
