We filed electronically two months ago, and got our State return within a couple of weeks. The automated IRS system tells me that my return is still "processing." My accountant tells me the IRS is short staffed and still behind on the 2019 returns. In other words, don't hold my breath. Where's my money Uncle Sam?

Nope. We had ours accepted and a refund issued within days of filing on April 15th. Was your return unusually complex?

That's how it usually goes for us, so I'm wondering what the deal is. Our return isn't particularly complicated and nothing has changed from previous years (except we added one more baby).

They still haven't paid me for my 2018 return but I had to pay for 2020. Then they kept charging me $20 for late payments of interest of $1.

I am good with federal, it is my state that hasn't paid up. I am owed $400! I keep forgetting to call them and complain.

I filed electronically and saw a similar warning about potential delays, but I think mine completed within two weeks.

Last year I filed by mail in March. I didn’t get my refund until September. I thought it had been lost in the mail. The IRS website and hotline had zero information. I ended up contacting my congressman, because I was worried I’d get audited. They talked to an IRS liaison, who assured them they were simply backed the hell up from short staffing, and filing by mail didn’t help.

This year I filed electronically, and got my refund at the usual time.

if you are due a refund then fix your withholding for next year...
