Great blue heron. They’re usually wary to the extreme, I’m surprised you got that close to one. They’re super predators, eating anything they overpower, up to the size of muskrats.

They walk right by me on the beach.

They stand by fishers and try to steal their fish.

They even fan their wings out and sun off for hours.

They never quite seem to catch fish, though they lunge into the waves a lot.

Yeah, remember someone posted a pic on here a while back - one of these was attacking baby ducks. I couldn't even look. But these evil birds are on my shit list forever.

Why ? Its nature.. Nature is not nice. That's like saying bears are cute because they are fuzzy. Go hug a bear and tell me how it turns out.

I wish these would eat all the damned shit factories in Canada called Canadian Goose. or Liberals..

Looks like a great blue heron to me! We get to see those around my way from time to time. Sandhill cranes are another one that you don't realize how tall they are until you see them up close. Cool pic!

As others said these are Great Blue Herons. I grew up on the water and saw these throughout my life.

What I didn't know and recently learned, they can and have killed humans! When threatened or attacked, they will stick that giant swordlike beak directly into the eye and stab right through to the brain.

Extremely rare. Only a few recorded instances, but same method, through the eye.
